The winter equinox falls this week and the realization that from this point on the days grow steadily longer is a comforting one, especially so after the snow which fell last week.
Despite the perishingly cold wind and a mixture of sun and cloud, Millthorpe's streets were busy with visitors over the long weekend. The novelty of having the superbly restored 3801 steam-engine, complete with original red passenger carriages, plying the track between Orange and Blayney, brought many sightseers to vantage points along the railway track.
The train looked particularly fine as it steamed through Millthorpe Station.
Historic Homes Reprinted
The excellent book, Historic Homes of Millthorpe and District, first published in 2017 to celebrate the village's 150 years, was a popular item with all copies being sold by early 2020.
The Golden Memories Museum staff have organised a second print run of 100 copies, this time in soft-cover and with a few minor amendments, and still with the high-quality colour photographs.
These sought-after books are available at the Jacoba Craft Cottage at the museum for $50 each; a discount of $30 from the original hard-back edition price.
Golden Memories Museum News
The museum team has been successful in obtaining another grant through 'Create NSW' for Round 2 of Arts and Culture. Congratulations to the team, as out of the 100 recipients there were only five museums.
The grant will fund a project called 'A corner of Millthorpe History' and it will involve building an archives room, a front entrance in the Good Templars Hall, and a new display area for our Wiradjuri and early European settlement of the village.
On Thursday 17 June, the museum hosted an energetic school group from Blayney Public School.
Special thanks to the volunteers who helped run the activities for the visit which gave the children some eye-opening and hands-on experiences of how life was lived in Millthorpe and district over the past 150 years.
Millthorpe Creative Arts
The June long weekend saw a second art exhibition in the Pioneers Gallery at the museum.
While not attracting as many visitors as the Easter exhibition, the MCA committee are confident it is a venture which can be built up with future events.
