Trains were suspended indefinitely along the line as a result of the damage, with the heavy rain that's lashed large parts of the state also hitting the Blue Mountains.
Leura has received 278 millimetres of rain over the course of the weekend, resulting in the landslip.
Train services have been suspended between Lawson and Mount Victoria and buses being organised to operate a replacement service.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said, in a facebook post on Sunday afternoon, that "we appreciate everyone's patience as teams work to investigate the damage".
