The extraordinary sight of around 40 gleaming, pre-1916 automobiles, lined up in the sunny grounds of Millthorpe Public School on the morning of Saturday, August 31 quickly drew a crowd of spectators. The 7th HCCA International Tour is based in Bathurst for ten days before they'll set off on Saturday, September 7 on the 'Bathurst to Bundy' tour (Bundaberg in Queensland). The tour is financially supported, in part, by the NSW government 'Destination NSW' tourism promotion body. The excursion to Millthorpe included a morning tea, with highly praised scones, hosted at the Golden Memories Museum. The automobiles covered a great range of styles, makes and origins, with both local and American participants. Such is the enthusiasm of these 'horseless carriage' owners, many of the vehicles were shipped over from America especially to join the tour..
Sam Yeates' Send-off
The pews of historic St Thomas' Anglican Church at North Sydney were filled on Thursday, August 29 as hundreds of mourners gathered for Sam Yeates' funeral. Many Millthorpe friends attended which was a testament to the warm regard and affection in which Sam was held and which continues, with added care, for Lesley. Many people commented on the special talent Sam and Lesley had for connecting people, especially at their gatherings at "Gleneagles'. Eulogies delivered by Sam's brother Rob, Sam's children Sarah, Christopher and Charlotte, and Sam's much loved wife, Lesley, covered the span of Sam's wonderful life, evoking both tears and smiles as anecdotes about Sam were recounted and the loss he will be to so many so strongly brought home to the listeners.
