The Central West National Trust Open House Weekend Committee (and that's a lot of capitals...) ran a highly successful event over the weekend, helped by a large number of volunteers and made possible by the generous opening of their homes by Millthorpe residents of 'Grove Farm',' Vermont', 'Methleigh' and 'Old Baptist Church'.
Pre-paid lunches were supplied by the industrious team at the Golden Memories Museum, and morning tea was available at 'Vermont' and 'Methleigh' on alternate days.
In true village spirit of 'Keep Calm and Carry On', the volunteers, caterers and businesses of Millthorpe wrapped up and got on with their jobs, as the temperatures stayed in single figures with fog and wind on Saturday, and still cold but afternoon sun on Sunday.
Millthorpe Markets Sunday, April 7
The organisers, vendors and would-be attendees of the biannual Markets will be happy to see the rapid effects of the past week's rain on Redmond Oval and its surroundings, the grass growing before our eyes.
The 65mm of rain in the last week or so, falling on warm, dry ground, has had a spirit-lifting effect as the district greens up.
The forecast for the Markets is for warm, dry autumn weather, which hopefully will hold, after the wintery blast which made the weekend of March 30-31 a challenge for the 600 National Trust visitors to the Millthorpe and Carcoar districts.
Millthorpe Railway Commemorative Certificates
The Millthorpe Village Committee has agreed to present every child with a certificate to commemorate the re-opening of the Millthorpe Railway Station. Committee members will attend the final assembly of the term on Friday, April 12 and present the certificates to class teachers.
This is one way of saying thank you to the students and teachers for the preparation and performance of the children at the opening of the railway station.
The school choir was highly praised for their performance of three songs, under Ms Jo Jackett's direction. The students of Millthorpe Public are indeed fortunate to attend such a beautiful school with caring staff who enrich their lives daily.
