During the school holidays the recycling bin can fill very quickly, however a new initiative by the Exchange Hotel will help you free up some space, and do a good deed as well.

Manager of the hotel Marty Russell has introduced an aluminium can recycling service as a way of raising money for Rotary in Bathurst.

The cages are located at the rear of the hotel and Mr Russell said that each can will raise 10 cents for the service club, and they prefer them in a certain way.

“It’s better if the cans are left whole as the Return and Earn system reads the bar codes, and if they’re squashed, you only get paid by weight,” he said.

The hotel is no longer using post mixes and is using canned drinks as mixers.

The cans are collected and taken to the Return and Earn centre in Bathurst.
