The awards are named after late cardiac surgeon and pioneer of modern heart transplantation, and handed to year 11 students across the Central West each year for excellent in science.
Dr Chang’s connection to heart transplants resonates with Ms Davis, whose favourite science experiments in the classrooms have included sheep heart dissections.
She fell in love with science at first glance in year 7, and is now doing chemistry and biology, with an eye on studying medicine and looking to do podiatry.
“I like learning how to do to do stuff and how things work and why things happen,” she said.
“Definitely medicine I’d like to continue to go along with that and looking at all parts of the body.”
She said she was “very excited” to receive the award, and didn’t expect the nod at all, saying she wasn’t aware of it before being nominated.
