One weekend it’s the show and a week later the village is inundated with runners that come from around the country to compete.
Event Director Andrew Baulch said that they were on track to beat the number of different centres that people came from.
“Runners came from 232 different towns and cities for last year’s cup and we are on track to beat that this year,” he said.
“That’s just remarkable for a tiny town event.”
Baulch said support was coming in from a variety of groups like Running Mums Australia and local schools, plus the welcome return of regulars to what’s considered one of the tougher races in the NSW Regional Distance Running Championships.
“This race is on people’s bucket list,” he said.
“Some people that have done the race won’t be back again because of the hills, but the big success from last year is the ten kilometre race because it’s mainly downhill and being that distance you still get serious racers entering, plus it’s appealing to many others,” he said.
Baulch said that the numbers of people running in the marathon have been much the same over the past years and that it was a difficult decision to cancel the ultra-marathon.
“We get 80-90 people every year who will take the marathon on, some to say that they did it and for others it’s a qualifier for the six-foot-track run in the Blue Mountains,” he said.
For those wanting a named bib, entries must be in by the 28th of October.
