Rainmaker Elle ($2 favourite), trained by George Poulton, led the whole way in the Ladbrokes Cash In Maiden (307 metres) during a wet afternoon of racing at the Bathurst track.
Poulton’s bitch shaped up as a great omen bet on a dreary day though there was nothing dull about the way she soared clear of the field from box one, winning in a time of 17.96 seconds.
“I just used this race as a trial. She keeps improving every time she goes around,” Poulton said.
“She’s actually better from the outside boxes.”
You wouldn’t have known that from the way the Magic Sprite bitch got away from the inside box.
She keeps improving every time she goes around.
- George Poulton
My Great Boy, Princess Mia and Ya Mum all got away well but only the former could stay within striking distance of the leader approaching the turn.
The gap got back to a length on the turn. Morning Tide also made a strong charge through the field but drifted wide.
Princess Mia and My Great Boy got tangled up as the field straightened.
Rainmaker Elle took advantage of the contact to race away to a four and a half length win.
