Paul Toole expressed his admiration for the work of the Historical Society and Peter Wylie described the vital part Millthorpe’s agricultural output of chaff, flour, potatoes and peas had played since the 1860s.
This generous grant will fund the digitisation of the collection onto a new data base over the next two years. Hayley Lavers heads this significant project covering upwards of 14,000 items, and volunteers to help with data entry are needed.
Rotunda Garden Project
Having now received the full report from Council, a revised plan for the mini precinct around the historic Redmond Oval rotunda has been agreed by the BSC heritage advisor.
This includes planting laurel hedges, new brick edges on the entrance stairs and pebbles. Tony Wise Constructions has been authorised by BSC to manage minor building works for the Millthorpe Village Committee and they will carry out the renovation.
Convent Lane renovation
The renovation of Convent Lane, between Park Street and Montgomery Street, has been given Council approval. Funding will come from the Millthorpe Garden Ramble Committee.
Raised garden beds on either side of the laneway will be planted with laurel hedges to reflect the hedges along the school fence-line and at the Memorial Gates on the eastern side of Park Street. The lane will also be resurfaced for pedestrian and cyclists’ safety.
Acoustic Sunday at Club Millthorpe
Club Millthorpe will host Acoustic Sunday, August 19 from 3 – 5pm. This month features Jon Wilby and Jenni Kane together with Montgomery Church.
They are presenting a special Songwriters’ Circle, telling the story behind the songs, the writing and the recording. Sticky Tickets are pre-selling tickets, or at the door for $10.
Youth Club
Posters have gone up advertising the Youth Clubs’ current street art competition.
The youth club committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the School of Arts from 6:30 pm. Contact the coordinator, Darren Yates for further information or look for the posters.
This is a great opportunity for local youth to unleash their creativity.
