The 40th birthday of Blayney Shire Council was held on the lawns between the council buildings and the tourist information centre on Thursday August 12, and the flipping of the burgers and the spinning of the snags was all accomplished by staff members and councillors.
Former mayor Terrey Johnson, who was mayor between 1982 and 1984, spoke to the crowd of council workers and residents about how much the shire had changed, joking about the sea of fluro shirts around him he said, “OH and S wasn’t such an issue back in the seventies.”
Another notable guest was Betty Wilson, the widow of former mayor Ted Wilson, who was mayor from 2005 – 2008.
Former councillor Bruce Kingham was also at the gathering. Mr Kingham held the position of mayor three times.
John Davis was also at the ceremony and remains the longest serving mayor.
