It marks a far better start than last year for the reigning champions, who were winless in their first half-dozen rounds in 2017 before storming home to take the title.
Some new faces took to the field for Tigers, including youngster and Blayney athletics talent Thomas Dale and two familiar faces the C-grade side last season.
It’s nice to have [the extra players] as it’ll give us a lot more depth.
- Millthorpe skipper Jacob Evans
It was a potentially dangerous match-up for the Tigers, up against a newly formed CYMS side, but Millthorpe skipper Jacob Evans said his side was happy to come away with the win.
“It’s nice to have [the extra players] as it’ll give us a lot more depth. We had quite a few games without subs or playing with 10 so it’s nice to have some fresh legs to change things up if we need,” Evans said.
He also said it was good to get the competition under way, with excitement around new sides – with CYMS joined by a new Barbarians outfit, the new first-grade Kinross side and a second Barnstoneworth side all making debuts on the weekend, bringing the competition to nine sides.
