The Panthers’ under 15s development squad will land at Blayney for the games, with Western Rams’ under 16s, a Western Development side and a Far West Academy outfit also in action over the course of the afternoon.
Games will kick-off at 12pm and full-time on the final fixtures will be blown at around 3pm as all four sides look to gear up for the 2018 season ahead.
It’s the second week in a row Kurt Hancock’s under 16s side will take to the field after securing two big wins over country championship quality opposition in Young last weekend.
The Rams ran riot at Keith Cullen Oval, bagging comprehensive victories thanks to a starring role from Tyler Colley, who scored a brace in Western’s six-tries-to-one win over Monaro, while Jack Hartwig scored a double in a similarly convincing five-tries-to-two win over Riverina in game two.
Western regional manager Peter Clarke said although the scores were secondary to all three regions selecting squads to tackle the upcoming country championships, his Rams sides’ coming up trumps in all four games – the Western under 18s also came up trumps in their two games – bodes well as the green and whites look to defend both the under 18s crown and under 16s title won after successful campaigns in 2017.
The 2018 country championships begin at Mudgee’s Glen Willow on Saturday, February 24, with Western taking on Penrith sides in the under 16s and under 18s.
