The Millthorpe Markets and businesses in the village have been beset by data dropouts during the markets, caused by the large numbers of visitors accessing the current 3G tower.
Millthorpe Markets Coordinator, Rachel Booth, said that despite assertions given by Telstra in April that the tower would be upgraded to 4GX by the middle of this year, there has been no progress.
“I had been told in mid- August that it’s scheduled between October and December and that gave us some hope,” she said,
“Then in mid-September I received a reply stating that they were unable to provide a more definitive date because of circumstances beyond their control.
“We have been telling stallholders that it should be done, and now without any commitment whatsoever, it’s very disappointing.”
Area General Manager for Telstra, Mike Marom, said that they were working towards getting the tower upgraded.
“When it comes to the upgrading of network we have several dependencies outside of our direct control which impact the delivery date of the upgrade and therefore we are unable to provide a more definitive date.
“We apologise for the delay and we wish to assure our customers that we are working closely with our co-location partner to ensure the upgrade is completed as quickly as possible,” he said.
