A research doctor at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney, Dr Denton is running as a Country Labor Party candidate and says that both the NBN and a doctor within the Accident and Emergency department at Blayney Health Service are his highest priorities.
“Before the NBN came to Blayney I had to travel to Sydney on a regular basis, but now I can Skype and communicate with ease,” he said.
Dr Denton said that he will be a strong advocate to see medical professionals basing themselves in Blayney.
“They haven’t had an A&E doctor at Blayney for five years and I’ll be lobbying Paul Toole very hard to see that happen.”
John Newstead was on council during the tumultuous period between 2004-08 when the $75 community centre levy was introduced and said that he was looking forward to getting a few things done around the shire.
“I want to see more industries coming here and see a lot more happening on the tourism side of things, work on ways of promoting the shire better,” he said.
Mr Newstead believes that it takes one term on council to fully understand what’s happening, and after a nine year break he’s raring to get back into it.
“In my first term I was really just learning, and in my second term, I’d have a lot better idea on how the dealings work.”
