Calls from the floor urging the current committee to explain what’s happened with the club’s debt were put to rest by the acting president of the club, Steve Chapman.
“We’re not here to talk about the financials,” he explained, “We’ll be having an AGM in 21 days but there’s no point in going to an AGM without a clear idea of where the club is going, and what’s been going on.”
That AGM could be held over to the new year as the appointed accountants Qureshi Brothers, diligently pour through the club’s accounts.
Four years of Business Activity Statements (BAS) payments, and how they weren’t paid, was the most contentious issue of the night, and the impact that that debt has had, Mr Chapman said, will be revealed at the next AGM.
Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson believes that when the true financial state of the club is revealed, that’s when the club needs to sit down and work on a long term plan that extends over all aspects of it’s operations.
“There is a real opportunity now to completely reinvent the club that will meet the demands and the expectations of the customer, work on the demographics and work out who they’re targeting,” he said.
Cr Ferguson said that the club had access to a lot of very qualified people who could work on an interim committee, setting the club up for a long and profitable future.
“There is always a place for volunteers, but there is so much legislation and responsibility that the hard day to day grind of running a business that turns over thousands of dollars and employs people, you need people that know what they’re doing,” he said.
Taking aim at former board members and trying to place blame for the current position of the club was extremely counter-productive Cr Ferguson said.
“This dilemma has been years in the making and once everything’s on the table and they’ve cleared the air, out of the ashes a great club will rise,” he said.
