For Roads Safety Officer, Iris Dorsett, the natural extension of all that organisation is Plan B, getting home safely afterwards.
We just want everyone to get there safely, and home safely.
- Nick Wilcox
“It’s really important, especially out here in regional areas where we don’t have much access to alternate forms of transport like regular buses and trains, that people focus on working out how to get home at the end of the night,” she said.
Ms Dorsett said that local businesses such as the Exchange Hotel and Blayney Motors hire buses from Newman’s whenever they put on a social occasion.
“The bus is a really great idea for these social activities because we can all have a good time out without having to worry about getting back again,” said the publican of the Exchange Hotel, Nick Wilcox.
Avoiding the temptation to drive is what Ms Dorsett said is the most important element of getting through the festive season unscathed.
“The consequences of an accident, or getting caught, is far greater than the cost of a taxi,” she said. “The risk to yourself, and especially others, is too great.”
Mr Wilcox said that the message of Plan B was quite simple.
“We just want everyone to get there safely, and home safely,” he said.
