School gardens are a wonderful way to use the schoolyard as a classroom, reconnecting students with the natural world and helping them understand the true source of their food, teaching them the value of gardening. It is a great skill that can be integrated with several subjects, such as math, science, art, health and physical education.

After a long, wet and cold winter, St Joseph’s are getting back in the swing of their school gardening project. The idea of the project is to learn through gardening, creating a generation of kids connected to their food, community and engaged in nurturing a healthy planet.
On the menu for this spring are artichokes, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and much more! The students love getting their green thumbs dirty and are really excited to see and taste the fruits of their labor.
Paul Toole Visit
St Joseph’s Primary were privileged to welcome state member, Paul Toole into our school during his recent Blayney visit.
A former teacher, Paul was very interested to return to the school environment to discuss the growth and change in education.
Principal, Robyn Wallace was able to show Paul our vision for the school and discuss complexities of teaching in a contemporary setting.
The meeting provided a great platform to share the schools innovative vision with the state member and raise issues that educators face in the modern classroom.
The school was extremely grateful for Paul’s time and thankful they were able to share their long term vision.
