As part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads scheme, Errowanbang Road was identified as a sore spot for motorists and local property owners with its narrow and unsealed surface.
NSW Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and local Councillors met with residents on Monday to view the work already completed on the road.
Mr Gay was pleased with the progress made on the road and said the upgrades will save time for trucks travelling to and from key local enterprises, including the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange and Cadia Valley Operations.
“These are all important industries and if we can get higher mass limit vehicles out here, it saves the costs for the industry, it saves the amount of truck movements in the area and importantly it is nearly 50 kilometres saving in travel going from the Mid Western Highway to the Great Western Highway,” he said.
“There will be less truck movements through Blayney, Millthorpe and Lucknow and that is important as well.
“It makes a difference for the community.”
The improvements to the road are also set to reduce the ongoing maintenance costs for Blayney Shire Council by 50 per cent.
Blayney Shire Council mayor Scott Ferguson is thrilled with the progress made on the road and is looking forward to seeing the benefits the upgrades will have on the local community
“The improvement in the road infrastructure for residents alone is phenomenal,” he said.
“It obviously has big advantages for Cadia, regional tourism, which is really good, and also things like emergency services, including rural fire service and SES, to actually get around this part of our shire in a more safe manner.”
$1.5 million of the project has been spent on the improvements with the additional upgrades starting in coming months.
