After what seemed a very long off season the boys were back into the footy last Saturday.
We played the very strong Bloomfield side and in lovely conditions for football we ran out winners 4 tries to nil.
Mayson McPaul started where he left off last season by scoring twice while Zak Symons and Aiden Nunn also scored tries.
Although the boys played some great attacking football it was their defence that had the coaching staff smiling.
Harry Zideluns and Bailey Selton were very solid in the middle while Aden Prosper and Lochie Little chased everything.
But it was Zack Farr that stood out tackling everything, sometimes making two or three tackles in a row as well as making good yards with the ball.
It was a performance that earned him player of the week.
It really was a great effort to keep the Bloomfield side scoreless and if we can continue to improve each week we should have great season.
Well done to all the boys. See you at training on Tuesday.
UNDER 11’S DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD
The under 11’s started the year in a very positive fashion defeating Blooomfield Tigers 18-0 in a very solid effort.
Morgan Fuller started where he left off last year with some great defensive efforts. Morgs really set the example for the team in this area and he also scored a strong try.
Ryan Hunter gets a big tick from the coach this week as he carried on his good form from the pre-season carnival at Dubbo. Ryan’s defence was similar to Morgs, constantly knocking over ball carriers. Likewise his willingness to cart the ball forward and make metres was very good.
Brad Baker was dangerous all game with the ball and he scored a very good try with some smart running.
Max Mcleod really used his strength in both attack and defence and his involvement rate was high. Overall Max’s ability to defend is very good and this will be important to the team during the season.
Jack Oresic looks at home on the footy field and he would have enjoyed the experience of his first rugby League competition match. Certainly Jack will enjoy the opportunity to become more involved as the season progresses.
Heath Wright who is also new to the game returned a good effort with the opportunities he had, well done.
Jimmy Read also jumped out the box well with good dummy half service and also making metres with the ball when he had the opportunity to run the ball.
Pat Duggan has been working very hard at his game and it showed on Saturday. Patty’s defence was much improved and he had many holds of the footy.
Alex White is another who impressed after some hard training during the week. Alex is a much improved player who will continue to get better with each week of footy.
Logan Claypole was dangerous at times and with some more touches of the footy could prove to be a real handful this season.
Nick Tilburg showed some good organisational skills during the match and his kicking game was excellent constantly putting Bloomfield under pressure. Nick also scored a clever try.
Brad Cheyney had an excellent game proving a very strong runner of the ball with the opposition constantly struggling to ground him. Like wise Brad showed some great defensive efforts pulling of some great covering tackles.
Thankyou to Anthony Pond and Liam Henry for standing by.
Overall it was a very pleasing effort particularly with the dangerous Joe Hobby absent for this match. The team’s ability to control the ball, play it in their opponents half and keep them scoreless was excellent .Well done Boys.
UNDER 12’S MATCH REPORT
Saturday was the start to the 2011 season with the boys taking on Orange Bloomfield at Blayney.
In the first half the kids had a blinder with some great defence and good work with the ball.
Our two halves, Ryley Oborn and Kailen Graham, organised the troops well and also were called on to do plenty of tackling. Tyler Hobby was safe as a back at fullback both in defence and attack.
Jeremy Hunter was solid throughout the game whether he was on the wing or at hooker.
Ben Bell and Jordon Little had good all round games in the centres and were well supported by Ross McPaul and Samuel Hunter who worked non-stop.
Clae Adams showed plenty of ticker with some strong runs as did Tim Sullivan who caused plenty of heartache for the Bloomfield kids.
Matthew Reeks and Connor Smith were always willing to run the ball when asked and made valuable ground.
Tristan Hartwell played his first game of football on Saturday and showed plenty of speed and promise.
Jordan Hobby and Tom Hotham did plenty of work in the centre and were well directed around the paddock by a busy Henry Hobby.
Zac Lees started off the season like he finished the last one with great defence and organising the boys.
Dillion Ritchie was our bloke having a spell this week but still came and did a good job with the tee- thanks Dillion!
At half time the score was 6-all and that was an indication of the close game.
The final score was 20-6 against us and that was only due to a few lapses in moving up and spreading out.
For their first game the boys put in an exceptional effort, well done.
BLAYNEY JUNIOR LEAGUE
With the winter cold starting to creep in, the sun was still shining at King George Oval on Saturday for the first round of the 2011 football season.
It was great to see the bears donning the maroon and white once again for what was a great day of footy.
A special mention to all our new mini league players who were so enthused for their first game of footy, providing great entertainment for the supporters and spectators.
The club would also like to thank the new faces lending a hand in the canteen and around the ground.
