Year 10 students have learnt a valuable lesson on the workings of local government, with news that their proposal for a $272,620 skate park in Heritage Park has been fully funded and work is soon to begin.

A special assembly was held at Blayney High School and the secret announcement by member for Bathurst Paul Toole, came as a surprise to all the members of the Student Representative Council.
“We’re all really happy to hear that it’s going to happen,” said student Adam Tom, “We’ve learnt that these kinds of things don’t just happen and that it takes a lot of work and organising.”
Paul Toole said that the funding for the project had come from the NSW governments Stronger Country Community funds and would allow young skaters to remain in Blayney.
‘Currently they catch the train into Orange or go to the skate park in Millthorpe and now I’m really pleased to deliver, with Blayney Council, that soon they’ll be able to skate here in Blayney,” he said.
For Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson, the skate park is the final piece in the Heritage Park development.
“We have the adventure playground for really young residents and visitors and now we have the skate park for the older ones, so this will be the jewel in the crown for us,” he said.
Work is expected to be finished by the end of 2018.
