September saw the celebration of our 20th birthday at the Blayney Golf Club. Ten members were presented with their 20 year membership pins – not a bad innings!
It was a great opportunity to look back at photos and to recap on our various activities, guest speakers and fund raising activities over those years. Our memories of past members were also refreshed and many of us wondered just where those 20 years had gone!
Elizabeth Russ had many of us questioning our memory and/or general brain function when she presented us with a list of trivia questions relating to significant events of 1997, 2007 and 2017! Even some of the 2017 ones were difficult!
As with past celebrations, chocolates were in good supply and Bev Delayney was declared the winner of the quiz. Sadly this was our last meeting to be held at the Blayney Golf Club and we thank them sincerely for allowing us to hold recent dinners there.
The October dinner saw the club move to a new venue, the Royal Hotel in Carcoar, where members enjoyed a marvelous meal. Many thanks to staff for helping us out with very little warning! The venue was excellent and future meetings will be held there. Hopefully the move to Carcoar will see some ‘new’ Carcoar ladies coming along to our meetings and perhaps becoming members.
The guest speaker at this dinner was Alan McRae who spoke about the history of photography in the area. Alan is very active in the Bathurst Historical Society and had members fascinated with his knowledge and slides of the first photographers known to have been in the area. Alan has actually purchased some of these early slides so all in all it was a most interesting presentation. Alan was thanked by Lyn McCook.
The November dinner will be held on November 21 at the Royal Hotel in Blayney at 6.30 for 7pm. Any members who need a lift to Carcoar or would like to offer a lift to others, please contact Sue Townsend on 0429 464 205.
The guest speaker on this occasion will be Andrew Baulch who is the director of the Carcoar Cup Running Festival. A reminder to members that all members are presumed to be attending unless an apology has been phoned to Ros on 0412 291 054 by Friday, November 17.
