THE PALLIATIVE care room at Blayney hospital has been officially opened and for sisters Lorraine Gardiner and Sylvia Gore the room was the perfect place for their mother to be at the end of her life.

“We cared for her at home for four weeks and mum was always following the progress of the facility here, and wanted photos of it so she could visualise it,” Mrs Gardiner said.

Mrs Gore said that the support of the staff and the guidance given was superb.

“It’s very, very different kind of caring from saving a life, to being there to help someone as they come to the end of their life,” she said.

Councillor Scott Ferguson said that the room showed what the community can do.

“Newcrest, Rotary, Regis, the hospital auxiliary, and everyone in the community that donated any amount at all, we thank you.”
