In May 2009, twins Grace and Jessica were tragically killed in a car accident alongside their grandmother.
Their parents, Michael and Kelly Hornby dedicated September 12, the birth date of their young daughters to the road safety campaign and named it the Grace and Jessica Road Smart Day, also known as Pink and Purple Day.
The Grace and Jessica Road Smart Day is a reminder to slow down on our roads and stay safe.
It is not just for Grace and Jessica, it is also a day to remember all the lives that are lost on our roads.
Grace and Jessica’s father Michael, who passed away from melanoma in January 2014, campaigned tirelessly for improved road safety.
The proceeds raised from this year’s Pink and Purple Day will be donated to the Children’s Ward at Orange Health Services.
The proceeds from last year’s Pink and Purple Day also went to the Children’s Ward at Orange Health Services where they are utilising the money by re-decorating the paediatric corner in the recovery unit and making it more child friendly for the paediatric patients.
They have also been able to purchase 2 cars as well for transporting the children into theatre.
The waiting area is also being re-decorated and new more appropriate toys are being purchased for this area as well.
The Oresic and Hornby families would like to thank the Junior League and the community for their continued support of the Grace and Jessica Road Smart Day.
