Usually when a student has to work when they’re at university it means that they’re working in a bar or other service industry, but an innovative approach to a problem finding engineers to move to the country, has allowed for one Blayney CSU engineering student to both work within his chosen field, and study at the same time.

Former Blayney High School student Joel Cummings, has successfully completed the first 18 months of a Masters of Engineering at CSU.
As part of the course, cadets must undertake 4 years of paid work experience, 4 days per week, with a day dedicated to attend university for workshops and study.
Blayney Council’s infrastructure services department and its Director, Grant Baker said that Council was proud to be part of the program.
“Council is pleased to be able to offer Joel opportunities to experience all facets of the work it does in the engineering field such as, design and drafting, asset management, sewer, and road construction,” he said.
