Club president Adam Hornby said that the side realised that their fitness needed some serious work.

“The coaches have told me that that will be rectified over the next few weeks,” he said.

“At the moment the club just doesn’t have the depth that other clubs have got where we don’t have fresh reserves like a lot of clubs do.”

Hornby said that despite the loss the team put in a mighty effort on the day and added that they just need time to bring it all together.

“You can’t criticise the effort because they’re all out there having a real crack and they’re a much better side on paper than they are out on the field at the moment,” he said.

With a few reserves on the horizon, Hornby is confident that the side will improve over coming weeks. 

“We’ll keep plugging away and hopefully we will soon have a couple of more players which will make the squad fitter.”

With Michael Toohey returning as hook this week, Hornby sees the side will improve against a tenacious Lithgow side this Sunday.

“He’ll be a strong asset to the club because he is a hooker, which helps because we’ve had to plug a few gaps with players who play a bit of hooker, but Lithgow is in the same place as us this year and they’re always a tough side, especially when they’re playing at home.”

The Bear’s under 18’s side were a highlight of the day comfortably beating the Cowra side 18-4.

Cowra took an early lead with a try just seven minutes into the first half, but soon after Liam Burrell crossed the line and the try was converted by Brandon Rossi.

At the 19 minute mark Riley Oborn converted an earlier try by Jones bringing the score to 12-4.

After the break the Bears hammered in the final nail with Brad Baker grabbing a try just four minutes in. Once more Oborn converted the try finalising the score at 18-4.

The league tag side had a close victory on Sunday with a 14-10 win against a tenacious Cowra side.

Laura Funnell, Olivia Bird and Holly Uhr all crossed the line but the side was given a scare when Cowra scored a late try 21 minutes into the second half.

This Sunday the Bears sides are playing in Lithgow.
