The project includes a new, interactive children’s water playground, a new lift and wet level pool deck in the 25 metre lap pool, disabled access in the middle pool via a non-slip ramp, plant room upgrade that includes individual pool temperature controls, unisex accessible toilet facilities and a family change room.
Blayney Council will be dipping into their internal cash reserves to help pay for about half of the total cost, with the remainder dependant on an application for an Australian Government grant under the Building Better Regions Program.
Blayney mayor Scott Ferguson said that without the additional funds it would take another 15 years to achieve the upgrades.
“If this project is successful in attaining grant funding, the construction works are planned to commence within the next 12 months and the pool facility would be expected to be closed for construction for approximately 6 months,” he said.
The closure is an indication of the large scope of works that are required, the majority of which will be going towards the pool infrastructure.
“The Blayney Swimming Pool was built over 50 years ago is in much need of an upgrade that will improve swimmer comfort, provide disabled access and facilities, improve safety and uses the latest pool water heating and cleaning technology to reduce operational costs and increase energy efficiency,” Cr Ferguson said.
“Behind the scenes in the engine room, the upgrade will include the complete renovation of the old concreted pipes, some of which are leaking and the water disinfection/filtration plant which includes separating the individual pool temperature controls. This will mean lap swimmers can swim at a more comfortable 28 degrees and water exercise and hydrotherapy users can enjoy 32 degrees.”
The plans are available for viewing at the pool, council offices or online via the council’s website. The survey is also available online and a paper version is available at the council offices.
Survey closes at 5pm, Monday, 20 February.
