The “Bright Lights of Blayney Shire” Christmas Lights and Decorations Competition (The competition) is a competition of skill and design being held by Blayney Shire Council with support from David Kennedy Real Estate, Blayney Town Association and The Blayney Chronicle to encourage increased visitation to the area in support of local businesses and build community spirit.

2. The competition will open to entrants from Thursday, 8 December and closes at 5pm AEST on Monday, 19 November 2016. (Competition period)
3. To enter the competition, participants are required to fill out an entry form found in The Blayney Chronicle published on Thursday, 8 December and Thursday, 16 December 2016. Entry forms also available from Council’s office and David Kennedy Real Estate in Adelaide Street, Blayney. All entry forms must be submitted to Blayney Chronicle Office, Blayney Shire Council Office or David Kennedy Real Estate, Adelaide Street Blayney by 5pm AEST Monday, 19 December to be included in the judging.
4. A panel of judges with a representative from Blayney Shire Council, David Kennedy Real Estate and the Blayney Town Association. The judging will take place on Tuesday, 20 December 2016 after 8pm.
Judges will award points for originality, use of colour, layout & design and additional effort to create a wonderful display.
5. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third for two categories of best residential and best business consisting of:
Residential - 1st prize = $100 plus a one-year subscription to The Blayney Chronicle
2nd prize = $75
3rd prize = $50
Business - 1st prize = $100 plus a $100 advertising voucher for The Blayney Chronicle
2nd prize = $75
3rd prize = $50
6. The competition is open to all businesses and residents located in the Blayney Shire who can decorate their own premises with lights and decorations in Christmas theme. Entrants must be 18 years of age.
7. The winners in each category will be announced in The Blayney Chronicle published on Thursday, 22 December 2016 and posted on Blayney Shire Council’s Facebook page at 10am on the same day.
8. Winners will also be contacted by Blayney Shire Council staff on Wednesday December 20 to make arrangements to collect their cheque prize money from Blayney Shire Council’s office, in Adelaide Street Blayney before 12 noon on Thursday, 22 December 2016 (before Council’s Administration office closes for business for 2016), unless otherwise agreed.
9. All decisions by the judges as to the winners will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.
10. If the prizes are not claimed by 5pm AEST, 30 January 2017, the prize will become null and void.
11. Entrants agree to the property address and photos of the property being published as part of promotion of the competition.
12. All entrants agree that their lights and decorations display will stop at the property boundary and not cover the Council verge.
13. The community is encouraged to get behind their favourite display by posting a photo on Blayney Shire Council’s Facebook page with #BlayneyBrightLights
