With this year’s Duntryleague and Ex-Services Country Club gongs already in his bulging trophy cabinet, Payne secured the Blayney Open title on Sunday to make it three from three.
Once again defying his dodgy left knee – which he says requires replacing – Payne carded a two-over scored of 104 in the unique, 27-hole event.
A nine-hole course, players complete three rounds to earn their cumulative total.
With reigning champion and clubmate Andy Campbell a no-show thanks to work, Payne beat out Cowra’s Pete Kirwan and fellow Duntryleague chance Mal Gregor – in second and third respectively – to claim the win.
Kirwan and Gregor both finished with four-over totals of 106.
“It’s not entirely surprising, Payney has won so often for so long,” Blayney Golf Club’s Mick Miskell said.
