Coach of the Blayney Bears under six side, Brad Henry, said that it was a rarity for him to hear parents letting fly with abuse.
“It’s been pretty good so far, but then as they’re under sixes they don’t keep score, it’s really just a bit of fun for the boys,” he said.
“Occasionally you do hear some parents getting a bit excited, but that’s when I get involved and explain that they’re not playing for sheep stations.”
Joint coach and manager of the Blayney Bears under 11 side, Jason Pond, said that most spectators were positive with their comments.
“It’s always hard to get people to come along and help out on the weekend so you really can’t let people on the sidelines run the game,” he said. “If you’ve got an issue, come and see us, because if you’re just yelling from the sideline, in the end it’s you that looks stupid.”
Development officer with Sport and Recreation, Joanne Barrett, said Shoosh for Kids week was to remind spectators that there is no place for negative comments in our local sport.
“Shoosh for Kids means that regardless of the sport families will attend on the weekend, they will get the same message ‘keep your comments positive or shoosh’,” she said.
