A SILENT auction of hanging baskets of flowers and the opportunity to chat to an expert salvia grower are features of this year’s Millthorpe Garden Ramble.

Ten gardens are open for inspection, including four within the village, three on the outskirts and another three in the Forest Reefs area.
“We have large rural and lifestyle gardens, gardens which are part of commercial enterprises, such as ‘Eidolia Park’ the iris garden and ‘Burrawang’ hazelnut farm, as well as charming house block gardens on town blocks,” said Millthorpe Garden Club president Lyndall Harrison.
“Several of the gardens are on steep blocks and are cleverly terraced to open up their views.”
To keep visitors’ energy levels up, stalls will be available at the majority of sites, providing refreshments including chocolate and preserves. There will also be garden ornaments, art and jewellery, plants, garden design and garden art for sale.
Expert salvia breeder John Fisher, who had success at this year’s Chelsea Garden Show, will hold regular chats about salvia growing and his experiences in the UK, at the garden of Alistair and Kirsten Dunham on Back Road.
“John received third prize for his new breed, Love and Wishes, which is aligned with Make-A-Wish Australia, and part proceeds from each sale are donated to this inspiring charity to help fund the wishes of Australia’s sick children,” Ms Harrison said.
Around Millthorpe, hanging baskets, donated by central west businesses, will be auctioned in a silent auction.
“Make your bid for your preferred basket in our silent auction at Millthorpe Blue at 23 Pym Street,” Ms Harrison said.
“Bids will close at midday on Sunday, so lucky new owners can collect them before heading home.”
The Millthorpe Garden Ramble is on this Saturday and Sunday and gardens are open from 10am to 4pm. Cost is 10 gardens for $20 or $5 per garden.
