There was an all Blayney derby at the showground last Saturday
As the under 8’s practice together as a team on Wednesdays, it was no problem for them to face up to each other.
Dolphins/Seals team was comprised of Jack Oresic, Thomas Johns, Sarah Bradley, William Cheney and Jock Pryse Jones.
On the Seals/Dolphins team was Ella Lewis, Jessica Jones, Billy Mackie, Logan Claypole and Kiri Vijayakuma.
The kids were firing from the first seconds of the game with Jack making some outstanding attacks down the field.
He was rewarded early on with the first goal.
Thomas also was on the attack and continually pushed the ball forward towards the goal.
Jessica and Kiri defended admirably and prevented several goals. They each also got so close to scoring!
Logan played back in the first half, but still managed some impressive kicks more than three quarters the length of the field.
Jock was in true terrier form and nipping at the toes of the Seals. He finally passed for a great goal. Staying back for the Dolphins, William prevented a number of goals for the Seals as well as had a couple of long-range kicks that only just missed the goal.
Just before half time and Jack got free again to score the third goal for the Dolphins.
The second half saw a positional shuffle but an equivalent amount of enthusiasm and determination from every player. Billy was determined to stop any more goals and was successful many times saving balls flying in from each of the Dolphins’ feet.
Making it difficult for the Dolphins, Logan tackled again and again, but Thomas’s persistence paid off as he finally got one passed Billy to score.
Ella had some great pushes down field for the Seals and was running at the ball with great gusto.
On one great run down the field William finally scored for the Dolphins.
The Seals didn’t give up and continued to pass the ball, and chase players down. However it was Sarah who coming in from a corner kick did a great chip over the head of the defense to score the sixth and final goal for the Dolphins.
At the end of the game it was obvious these kids are really enjoying the game and improving each week in their team work, skill and fitness thanks to the guidance of coach Matt Jones. Special thanks to John Mackie and Angus Pryse Jones for coaching and reffing on Saturday in Matt’s absence.
Player of the Match for Dolphins-Seals was Sarah Bradley
and for the Seal-Dolphins, Billy Mackie.
