This year a total of $8344.52 was split between the two organisations as part of the fund which collects two cents from every dollar a customer spends on an IGA branded product.
Blayney Preschool director, Carolyn Dowler, said their portion of the money would refurbish the school’s outdoor area and update the computers for the staff and students.
“It’s a great opportunity to improve our outdoor play environment,” she said.
Ms Dowler said the school was planning to teach their students about the environment and encourage sustainability through the introduction of raised garden beds and a worm farm funded by IGA’s contribution.
President of the Blayney Branch of the Diabetes Council of Australia Kathy Roach said the donation from IGA would go towards the purchase of insulin pumps for diabetic children in the Blayney Shire.
“We now have enough money for two pumps,” she said.
“In the past 12 months we have been able to raise $16,000 in donations which is fabulous.”
Last year the Ronald McDonald House in Orange was the recipient of the $5794.95 donation from the chest.
This year’s chest was the largest amount Blayney IGA has raised in the six years they have been involved in the Community Chest promotion.
