More than 250 guests turned out on Saturday evening for the Anglican Church Debutante Ball to see eleven young ladies make their debut at Blayney Community Centre. The eleven debutants: Olivia Cooper, Mel Edmondson, Jessica Wyatt, Lizie Nelson, Leah Sparke, Sarah Sligar, Bindi Lane, Bec Anderson, Kiri-Ann Jeney, Taryn Dobson and Nicole Parker were presented to Anglican Bishop Richard Hurford.
The community centre was decorated in a Greek theme and in keeping with this the debutants carried exquisite bouquets of lilies.
The evening had its highs and lows. A caterers table crashed to the floor complete with food, plates and cutlery just as the audience came to a moment of silence for speeches. Later in the evening gatecrashers were able to gain entry to the hall and spoilt the later part of the night with their loutish behaviour. The high point of the evening was proving that Blayney needs a large venue for social events like debutant balls.
