I feel strongly that the is time is right for me to get involved in addressing the challenge of bringing diversity to our council, to better reflect our community. I would like to bring a different perspective, and balance, to council's decision making.
What knowledge, skills and qualities do you bring to council?
My work experience across disability, agriculture, finance and education sectors has developed my skills and knowledge in accounting, financial management, HR, marketing, communication and administration.
I have governance experience on local and national Boards - and extensive business management experience and strong networks across the local community, owning and operating Hills and Croft with my husband Angus, since 2000.
Qualities I bring include integrity, honesty, curiosity, compassion and genuine interest in listening to, learning from and improving the lives of others.
What do you see are some of the strengths of Blayney Shire?
- We have a local economy with strong potential for increased investment;
- We have a resilient, warm-hearted and welcoming community;
- We have an active business community invested in building a future for our region.
What do you see as some of the challenges facing Blayney Shire?
Key challenges include:
- providing post-school pathways for young people, particularly those from a rural area who face barriers
- accessing further education
- managing the resource needs of a developing community
- encouraging businesses to consider the Blayney LGA as a place to conduct and grow their business
- encouraging individuals and families to consider the area as a place of residence with all its benefits
What's your vision for Blayney shire?
My vision is for the shire to:
A. Have a council that reflects the diversity of our community and listens and gives voice to the needs of all, not just a few;
B. Acknowledge and address the inequalities and disadvantages that exist in our community and develop caring and supportive strategies to make a difference in the lives of those affected, to empower their ability to participate wholeheartedly in the community;
C. Actively invest in opportunities that bring economic, social and cultural benefits for our residents.
