The Bettors Delight gelding came into the race with a dominant Parkes victory to his name but had a tougher assignment in his heat.
Kalypso Sam managed to find a cosy spot on the outside line in the second of the meeting's heats before waiting for the right opportunity to pounce on the final lap.
O'Shea managed to avoid chaos behind him on the final turn when Just Won More galloped and took Scaramucci out of the race with him.
From there he moved out of the one out one back position and mounted a strong challenge against new leader Alta Billy.
John Downey's Goodtime Hero arrived on the scene late to make it a three horse dash for the prize.
Kalypso Sam poked ahead of Alta Billy inside the final 50 metres of the race to take out the race in a mile rate of 2:03.6.
He won by a head over Alta Billy ($3.70 favourite, Justin Reynolds) with Goodtime Hero ($7.50) a further head away in third.
"We got pretty lucky there. It was the horse sitting behind me that galloped and then it caused interference," O'Shea said.
"His last couple of runs have been pretty good. I'd say him going back to the smaller track would be the biggest reason for his improvement. As most horses do, he's one of those ones that struggle on the bigger tracks so coming to Blayney was a big help for him."
Goodtime Hero produced the run of the race to put himself in the frame for victory but he didn't quite have that killer kick he needed to run down O'Shea's hope.
"It was coming at me but it was there for a fairly long time and wasn't coming too quickly," O'Shea said.
"As Blayney is, it's sort of an uphill battle across the straight so if you can get your bib in front you can generally hang on."
The other heats were taken out by Steve Turnbull's Tamanisha Terror and Amanda Turnbull's Hold My Halo.
O'Shea said the memorial event often pulls some quality runners, and this year seems to be no exception.
"The draw for the final will be massive," he said.
"For a Blayney race it's not bad money and they were pretty strong heats. There were some nice horses who went around in it.
"He's going to need everything to go his way to be competitive and get himself in the top four. If he finds himself with a bad barrier then he could struggle."
O'Shea also enjoyed a winning drive earlier in the meeting when driving Josh Turnbull's Betting Star to a close victory in the Club Membership Pace (1,640m).
Several Bathurst drivers brought up season milestones across last week's racing.
Bernie Hewitt made it 50 winning drives for the season thanks to Bridge Coin's effort at Bathurst on Wednesday while Mitch Turnbull's winning drive at Blayney on Hold My Halo also took him to the half century mark for 2021.
