October 1 is celebrated internationally as United Nations Day of Older Persons.
PROBUS has adopted this date as PROBUS Day.
Across Australia, retirees will be celebrating Probus Day throughout the month of October.
Probus is all about friendship, fellowship and fun in retirement and provides senior members of our community with the opportunity to make new friends, experience new hobbies, participate in a wide variety of activities and enjoy listening to interesting guest speakers.
The benefits of social connections in the mature generation are well documented - they have a positive affect both physically and mentally.

Probus has been proudly providing those social connections in New South Wales for more than 45 years and in Blayney for 36 years.
The theme for this year's Probus Day is - CELEBRATE PROBUS - DO A FRIEND A FAVOUR with all members called into action.
They will be doing their friends a favour by helping them to join, stay engaged and connected through their local Probus Club.
At any age, enjoying the good times in life with friends is wonderful but the real value of friendship is experienced in the care and support which is so freely offered in the not-so-good times of our lives, including these times when social interaction is restricted.
Friendship can be expressed in diverse ways and it sometimes seems harder to accept a caring hand than it is to offer one.
Be a friend and accept friendship. We thank our friends for your friendship.
The Probus message is clear - we all need to focus on our social well-being. Probus Clubs across the country are inviting anyone that is retired or semi-retired to consider joining their local Club to experience Probus fun and friendship.

Covid restrictions have affected many of our Blayney Club's meetings and activities in 2020 and 2021.
Fortunately, a gap in lockdowns in February 2021 allowed Blayney PROBUS Club to venture on our postponed 2020 trip to be warmly welcomed as the first tour group to visit Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains for twelve months.
Thirty four members, partners and friends travelled by coach to Jindabyne - to the traditional land of the Ngarigo people - for five nights and travelled out each day to experience the many special features and facilities which this majestic mountainous part of the State offer in summer, such as fishing and mountain biking, to compliment and prepare for its more famous winter snow-fields activities.
Beautiful autumn weather helped us appreciate the tour highlights including a chair lift ride at Thredbo, then drlve to Perisher, Smiggin Holes and Charlotte Pass to be nearest to the roof of Australia at Mount Kosciuszko, to visit many of the Snowy Hydro dams and centres to learn about the incredible irrigation and hydro power network which commenced over 70 years ago and continues to expand with the Snowy 2.0 mega project.
We learned of the multi-cultural development of post-war Australia through the Snowy workforce and their families.
We saw the extensive devastation to the natural and built environments from the bushfires last year and saw brumbies on the high plains.
Probus is all about Friendship, Fellowship and Fun. This was definitely enjoyed in bucket loads by all on this trip.
The next 2021 trip to the Port Stephens area planned for later this month has had to be postponed and will be rescheduled for some time in 2022 as freedoms permit.
With current easing of Covid restrictions in Blayney Shire and the State Government's roadmap for return to "normality", the Blayney Probus Club plans to resume activities and
have a normal monthly meeting at the Blayney Community Centre at 10 am on Thursday 21st October 2021. Keep your sanitised fingers crossed and your mask on. Smile with your eyes.
Come and enjoy the friendship, fellowship and interest that Probus offers.
