The $1.8 million project includes the installation of acoustic baffles that are to be attached to the purlins before they're raised into place.
The project is being paid for by the state government's Resources for Regions fund.
The baffles can't be attached later explains council's Director of Planning and Environmental Services Mark Dicker.
"The acoustic baffles are a key component of the project because they cannot be easily retrofitted to the purlins," he said.
"They need to be installed to the new purlins on the ground prior to the crane lifting the new purlins into position."
Not only did the baffles miss the boat, but COVID related delays are adding to the holdup.
"As the acoustic baffles to be installed in the pool hall missed being loaded onto a ship in Europe, which is also compounded by delays for goods being shipped through Singapore," Mr Dicker said.
Currently the only barrier between the roof and the great outdoors is a thin layer of residential insulation which is costing the council and ratepayers a small fortune.
Other cost savings will come courtesy of water catchment and solar panels.
"Our gas, water and electricity costs us $275,000 a year and by adding the new roof, solar system and guttering we'll use less heating, be able to generate 70 kilowatts of electricity and harvest the water for use in Carrington Park and CentrePoint," he said.
Ground work has commenced at the rear of the centre where a 150,000 litre water tank is scheduled to be installed next week.
Details on when work on the roof will commence are in the hands of the sea gods, but Mr Dicker is hopeful that the pool roof will be completed by the end of the year.
"Parts of CentrePoint will remain operational during the project, dependent upon where the roofers are working," he said.
"The project is now scheduled to be competed in December 2021 in time for the summer school holidays. The timing of the staged closures will be confirmed shortly."
