After some uncertainty surrounding the Showgirl Competition, event organisers have confirmed that the annual competition is back for 2021. Interest has been growing with local ladies starting to put forward the entries, and Showgirl Steward, Vicki Wilson, said she is excited about this years event.
"We really didn't know if we would be able to host the competition but thank fully we have been able to and we are starting to see entries come in," she said.
"Last year was obviously a write off with most shows not being held due to COVID, so it is good to see the Royal Bathurst Show back on the cards and we are looking forward to the Showgirl Competition."
There have been some changes made to the 2021 program due to COVID and other extenuating factors, but Vicki said the competition would still be strong. "We always have some amazing competitors and local representatives take part and this year will be no different," she said.
"Due to restrictions we won't be having the Showgirl Dinner, instead the winner will be announced at the Official Opening on the Saturday of the Show and I think it will be an exciting occasion.
"We also have our amazing 20198 winner, Steph Ferguson, competing in Sydney and representing Zone 6 at the Easter Show, so we are wishing her all the best of luck."
In recent history, Bathurst has seen three young ladies head to Sydney to represent the city and the Central West, with promising results. Steph Ferguson has carried over from 2019 due to 2020 shows being cancelled, while Bathurst has also produced one winner and one runner-up at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
