For two players from the 1970's, Bob Jarvis and Doug Schofield, 2020 marks 50 years since they were involved in the Blayney Bears first ever second division grand final win.

Because of travel and border restrictions, the occasion this year won't be marked by any heady celebrations, but it doesn't mean that those involved in the match haven't remembered the day.

Bob Jarvis, nicknamed 'The Blayney Bear' because of his ferocious and tenacious playing style, is one of the surviving members of that team and fondly recalls the day that the cup was held aloft.

"I played in the Bears first second division win in 1970 against Orange Emmco in Millthorpe and was there playing in the first division grand final win seven years later," he said.

The teams in the second division were a combination of leftovers from the first division said the Blayney Bears coach at the time, Doug Schofield.

"There were two teams in Orange, Orange Emmco and Orange CYMS also Carcoar, Lyndhurst and some from around near Blackheath," he said.

Jarvis remembers how strong the Carcoar side was back then, especially a few of the major characters.

"Carcoar were the dominant second division side back then with players like Greg Fearnley, Johnny 'The Colonel' Fearnley, and also Lyndhurst that had big players like Porky Willard," he said.

"Blayney would play sides like Carcoar and Lyndhurst back then because there were the players available to field a team," he said.
