The maintenance of the main road linking Blayney to Millthorpe and beyond to Orange is no longer Blayney Shire Council's responsibility with Transport for NSW taking over the patching of the busy stretch.

Recent heavy rains have allowed a number of potholes to appear along stretches of the road, particularly near the service station.
Council's Director of Infrastructure Services Grant Baker said that maintaining the road was a heavy load for council.
"The increasing contractual obligations and return from that limited amount of network that we were maintaining was a burden on council," he said.

The sight of Blayney council vehicles and staff patching the road is one that is seared like hot bitumen into resident's minds and Councillor Bruce Reynolds is hoping that residents report any damaged surfaces to the correct authority.
"I'm concerned that council staff and workers will get the blame for the surface when the responsibility for its maintenance now lies with Transport for NSW," he said.
The road surface though has been repaired with a road crew seen patching the surface early on Wednesday morning.

Transport for NSW Director West, Alistair Lunn said that a routine inspection found potholes likely caused by recent rainfall.
"Transport for NSW assumed responsibility for Orange Road, previously managed by Blayney Council, on 1 July," he said.
