Unfortunately though the recent outbreaks in Victoria and Sydney have forced Mr Baulch to cancel his popular event, and it was a difficult one for him to make.

"When we decided to go ahead three months ago it seemed to be under control, now that the second wave is upon us we can't guarantee the safety of our runners, our volunteers, the spectators or the people living in the village," he said.

"Plus purely from a numbers point of view, which is a secondary consideration, having 500 people in town would only give us 100 or 200 runners and that's not feasible."

Mr Baulch said that one of the draw-cards of the festival is the large numbers of runners and supporters that come from around the country and internationally, it's also part of the problem when we're living in what he describes as a different age.

"Forty per cent of our runners come from Sydney and the remainder from outside our region and we can't guarantee where they've come from or where they've been," he said.

This year's cup was scheduled to go ahead on the weekend of the 7^th and 8^th of November, and was to be the event's 10^th anniversary, but now Mr Baulch is seriously considering the future of the event.

"It all depends on the circumstances, regulations and the situation with insurance that may make it too hard to run public events," he said.
