With the Regional Championships over and the State Championships coming up in in March, vice president Julie Loughlin said that the equipment has made a big difference to the centre.
"The timing gates were a significant purchase and were beyond the financial capacity of our centre until the Coles grant came along," she said.
"This funding has helped us modernise our equipment and has greatly benefited our athletes and volunteers."
The new timing gates were used for the first time last Friday night, and although the young athletes may have been none the wiser, committee member Mary Lamond was very excited to have the technology on board.
The timing gates are linked to the starting gun and as the runners cross the line the resulting time is instantly recorded.
"This will ease the load on all the parent helpers who help spend over an hour handwriting results and entering them into the Results HQ software," she said.
"There's no longer any doubling handling of results or difficulties reading someone's handwriting which can lead to delays and errors. The athletes can also check out their own progress."
