The club confirmed the signature of Lovett ahead of the Group 10 season launch at the Bathurst Harness Racing Club, Bears president Damon Taylor making the trip to Sydney to lock down the club's new big name recruit.

The signing for the former Tigers backrower comes just a week after the club went public with news Vave wouldn't be in maroon and white this season after the former NRL prop failed to meet the requirements of his deal with the Group 10 club.

Lovett played 50 NRL games with the Tigers before a stint in the English Super League and will be welcomed with open arms at King George Oval in 2020.

The Bears went winless throughout the 2019 premier league season but the club's recruitment chair Adam Hornby said Blayney is staunch in its bid to be a competitive outfit in Group 10 this year, and in the years to come.

Blayney's pursuit for its circuit-breaker - a key signing to turn the club around - is evidence of that, and Lovett fits the bill, Hornby said.

"Everyone knows we've struggled, but there's good mate ship throughout the club. There's no bitching here, we didn't win a game, sure, but I'll guarantee we had a better time than some of the clubs that ran third or fourth," Hornby said.

"It's not all about winning, and we don't want to fall into the same situation that's happened at Oberon and drop back to New Era. We won't do it."

Hornby said the addition of Lovett is the biggest indication yet the club is serious in its bid to play finals in 2020, and was hopeful the news would mean more players join the club.

"We've got opportunities for footballers out here," he added.

"There's positions available in first grade and in our reserve grade side. We'll talk to footballers of any level."
