Those small eateries are not unique to Australia though and the existence of such places are common throughout European countries.
In Italy the Italian version of a regional inn is called a locanda, and Carcoar is about to have its own version called Antica Australis, owned and operated by Paolo and Kelly Picarazzi.
With their official opening scheduled for mid-February the pair are gearing up for a special pop-up event for Australia Day.
"The Belubula River is a real draw card on Australia Day so we're offering takeaway panini and tiramisu for people to enjoy along the bank," Mrs Picarazzi said.
"Demand for the tiramisu is expected to be strong so we recommend ordering before the day.'
