Aging is here to stay as more of our population are living longer active lives. It is a time of possibility, opportunity and influence. The issue is how our society incorporates this older section of our society into the holistic functioning of our society. It is also big business.
Probus is for active retirees who join together to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy social interaction. Probus is all about Friendship, Fellowship and Fun.
Probus opens the door to new experiences and friendships, you can hear wonderful guest speakers, stay active by participating in a wide range of activities and explore your community, your country and the world.
In recent months, members of the Blayney Probus Club have definitely experienced these ideals by participating in such diverse activities as our week long annual holiday, an XPT lunch trip to Wellington, learning about local nurses in WW1 with historian Andrew Fletcher, to several members sharing their life's experiences.
This year's trip to Albury and the Upper Murray River region was applauded by all as amongst the best the Club has offered. Outstanding memories on top of the friendship and fellowship of the 34 members and friends on the coach included some of the lesser known attractions such as the Junee Chocolate and licorice Factory, Dartmouth Dam, Hume Dam, Bonegilla migrant experience and Bandiana Army museum as well as the more usual high quality touristy activities such as Yarrawonga lake cruise, winery visits and Beechworth. All up, a most enjoyable week. Thanks to secretary Lyn for her organisation of the trip. The lush greenery of the district also reminded us that there is life after drought.
On the iconic first Tuesday in November, members of Blayney Probus enjoyed the opportunity to help CanAssist make the Melbourne Cup luncheon another memorable day of fellowship.
The next general meeting of the Blayney Probus Club will be on Thursday, November 21 at the Blayney Community Centre commencing at 10am. Guest speaker will be local retail manager, Geoff Bottom.
The December meeting will be the Christmas luncheon at the Blayney Golf Club on Friday 13th December. With no meeting in January, the next general meeting will be on Thursday 20 February 2020.
Please think about nominations for office bearers and committee for the 2020-21 year which need to be submitted in writing to the Secretary before the February meeting. Members are encouraged to be active participants in the operation of the Club.
At any age, enjoying the good times in life with friends is wonderful but the real value of friendship is experienced in the care and support which is so freely offered in the not-so-good times of our lives. Friendship can be expressed in diverse ways and it sometimes seems harder to accept a caring hand than it is to offer one. Be a friend and accept friendship. We thank our friends for your friendship.
Come and enjoy the friendship, fellowship and interest that Probus offers.
