Although the 10mm of rain that fell on Tuesday, October 8 put water in our tanks and refreshed the greening of the district, no one would complain if we received more of the same, times whatever number appeals.

With October half gone, and the annual Garden Ramble ahead on November 2-3, the generous people opening their gardens will be especially keen for more rain.
If rain falls, just don't refer to it as a 'miracle'. That word, along with 'awesome' has been overused far too often.
Update on Proposed McPhillamy's Gold Mine Project
Community information days were due to be held on October 15-16 at the Blayney Community Centre. Following a community meeting in May, when many issues were addressed by Regis Resources representative Tony McPaul, there has been growing public interest in the proposed project.
Support for the significant economic benefits to the area are being weighed up against issues including: environmental impact, jobs created, the 10-15 year life-span, sourcing of water, possible contamination affecting the Belubula River, dust and light pollution, and threats to endangered species.
District residents are invited to send submissions, for or against the proposed gold mine, to the NSW government planning department by October 24.
Belubula Headwaters Protection Group
With some 40 attendees, including Millthorpe residents, the Protection Group's community meeting, Tuesday, October 8 at Blayney Community Hall, covered many concerns. No Regis Resources representative attended.
The main concerns included: the 600 acre tailings dam's overflow into the river; the poor quality of the water being sourced from Lithgow; noise, light and dust pollution from a mine running 24/7; the loss of over 3000 hectares of prime agricultural land; possible contamination of the Carcoar Dam and Lachlan River; the huge increase in heavy traffic; and the impact on the flora and fauna in and around the site.
The Protection Group's website details these and further concerns about negative impacts.
Submissions, for or against the project, need to be completed by October 24.
Information on how to do this can be found on the website: www.protectbelubula.com, with the reminder, "Water is more precious than gold".
