With the Winter Solstice now more than three weeks behind us, the fine days are noticeably longer. Gardening chores move on from the autumn ritual of raking leaves, to the pruning, weeding and fertilising which will prepare for Spring. The village continues to wear its winter beauty well, thanks to the 50mm+ rain in June that has kept a green tinge to winter paddocks, parks and gardens. Follow-up rain in July would also be very welcome. The Winter Fire Festival and Millthorpe Night Market is on the calendar for Friday, August 2 another stand-out village event.

Railway Underpass Update
Blayney Council has been in contact with the Millthorpe Village Committee regarding the traffic and pedestrian hot spot at the Railway underpass. This blackspot is the MVC's number one infrastructure priority. The MVC has met with Council, our local member Paul Toole, and the BSC traffic committee, and all parties recognise the need for action. Improvements to the precinct will be complex and expensive as any changes will involve a number of Council service changes, Roads, Railways and other government infrastructure suppliers. The MVC has suggested to Council that the precinct should be remediated in stages and temporary affordable measures, to address immediate pedestrian and traffic safety concerns, should be implemented as a matter of urgency. Traffic monitoring road cables have been installed near the underpass and along Victoria Street recently so that data on traffic in the village can be analysed.
'Botanical Plan' for Millthorpe
The Millthorpe Village Committee and Blayney Shire Council have agreed on a 'botanical plan' for the village, to be carried out in stages over the next few years. Trees and shrubs will be planted on streets, parkland reserves and verges in coming weeks. After some initial community disquiet regarding protection of older street trees, it has been confirmed that our existing historic avenues of claret ash and London plane trees will be maintained as part of this village environmental enhancement program. Council will dig the holes, and MVC members and volunteers will plant the trees. If you would like to help, contact: Email: millthorpevillage@gmail.com
