The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research's latest report shows figures for 17 major crime categories in the Central West for the 12 months to March 2019.

The report shows the number of incidents in eight of those categories have declined, while eight have increased and one is stable.

The biggest percentage increase across the categories was robbery without a weapon with the number of cases in the region doubling from 18 to 36.

Among the other crimes to experience an increase was the theft of motor vehicles, with 434 stolen during the 12-month period, this was an increase of 15.4 per cent on the 376 that were stolen during the previous year.

Reports of steal from motor vehicle have also increased from 997 to 1139, which is an jump of 14.2 per cent.

Cases of steal from retail store cases also spiked in the region, with numbers jumping from 533 to 594 (up 11.4 per cent).

While there were declines in some crime categories, the percentages were smaller.

The number of sexual assault cases in the region fell from 270 to 257 (down 4.8 per cent), steal from dwelling cases dropped from 718 to 689 (down 4.0 per cent) and break and enter non-dwelling cases fell from 455 to 444 (down by 2.4 per cent)

There were more cases of malicious damage to property in the Central West during the past year compared to any other crime category.

During the 12-month period, there were 2349 cases, which was down compared to the 2449 in the previous year.
