THE richest and poorest postcodes for average taxable income in the Central West have been revealed, with only one location earning more than the national average.
Data shows the taxable income of the average Australia worker is just below $60,000 a year, or $59,014 to be exact.
The only Central West location to earn slightly above that is Nyngan where the average is $59,587, data from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) shows.
Nyngan is among five of the top six average earning locations in the region to have a significant mining infrastructure and workforce.
Coming in second, and slightly under the national average, was Orange where the average taxable income is $57,449.
Also earning less than the national average are workers in Mudgee ($54,571), Lithgow ($54,202), Bathurst ($53,915) and Dubbo ($52,600).
The statistics are an average of the taxable income of the entire workforce and they include full-time and part-time workers.
ATO data also showed there was a $209,741 difference between the richest and poorest earners in Australia.

The highest average taxable income of $230,330 was recorded in Sydney's 2108 postcode which covers Coasters Retreat, Currawong Beach, Great Mackerel Beach and Palm Beach.
NSW was home to the lowest earning area with postcode 2308, covering Newcastle University and Callaghan, recording an average taxable income of $20,589.
Medical practitioners dominated the top three highest earning occupations, with surgeons in the lead with an average taxable income of $394,866 followed by anaesthetists ($367,343) and internal medicine specialists ($299,378).
The ATO data also showed that women earn more than men in a number of occupations including as an author where the average salary is $85,006 compared to $68,342.
Female futures traders earn an average of $315,197 while males earn $303,466; while female magistrate earns $262,152 compared to $255,177 for a man.
