Open to ladies aged 18 to 24, the Showgirl Competition offers the chance for entrants to become ambassadors for the Agricultural Show movement, get involved in the local community and agricultural industry, and to simply have a lot of fun.
Steward of the Showgirl Competition, Vicki Wilson, has worked with more than 170 young women while in charge of the Bathurst competition and said the experience gained throughout the event is invaluable. "The showgirl competition is a valuable opportunity to showcase what wonderful women we have living, working and studying in this area, and it is commendable that they are giving back to the community".
"Importantly, it is a way of these young women meeting each other and networking, and getting interview experience which will be valuable later in their lives," she said.
"For any young person, getting involved in their community is very rewarding and the show girl competition not only allows this, but also provides the opportunity for the young ladies entering to follow their passions".
Whether they win or not, the Showgirl Competition allows entrants the chance to experience the Royal Bathurst Show in a unique light. They are able to be part of the competitions and play a major part in the grand parade while becoming role models for other young women within the community.
It also provides the perfect platform to meet a range of strong, capable and like minded women, while discovering more about themselves and what they are capable of.
The winner of the 2019 Royal Bathurst Showgirl progresses to the zone competition, with the winner then going on to compete for the prestigious title of NSW Showgirl at the 2020 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The title of Royal Bathurst Showgirl 2018 went to Jessica Course with Ms Course saying she was shocked by the announcement, "I don't think anyone expected it, I certainly didn't, but I am so honoured," she said. A big fan of the Bathurst Show since her childhood, Ms Course made it to the Zone 6 finals where she competed admirably.
This years event will see seven young ladies compete for the honour of Royal Bathurst Showgirl with Ms Wilson saying she was happy with the level of entries. "We can have anywhere from four to ten entries sop seven is a good number," she said. "The quality of entries is definitely high so it will be a strong competition".
